Medium sized bamboos reach 5-7 m depending on the variety. They are easy to maintain. Simply pull the shoot down and cut to the desired height and it will ‘flick’ back up. Alternatively you can trim them with a hedge trimmer.
Medium bamboo varieties suit most gardens.

Bambusa multiplex – Cream Stripe

Best and most popular variety for screening two storey buildings, apartment blocks, industrial sites etc. It provides a full screen up to 6m. It can be pleached like Slender Weavers bamboo but is best grown as a full bushy hedge. Featured image shows a well maintained Cream Stripe hedge clipped to the desired height.

Himalayacalamus hookerianus – Himalayan Blue Bamboo

Blue bamboo is a very attractive bamboo with 3cm blue canes. The feathery leaves are soft and graceful making it a really stunning specimen plant. Its dense habit also makes it an effective screen.

A good alternative to Black Bamboo which is an invasive runner.

Bambusa textilis gracilis – Slender Weavers Bamboo

Our most popular bamboo for screening as it can be pleached. It has clear straight canes and a very tidy habit. Reaches 6-7m if left alone but can easily be pruned and clipped.

Description:
It can be planted in a narrow space by reducing the canes to the desired plant width. (minimum 40cm)
Its upright habit and bushiness make it the perfect screening hedge.
Left alone it will make a tall hedge or the canes can be pleached by removing the branches and reducing the amount of canes. This gives a modern architectural look.
Perfect for containers. Useful for garden stakes.
Very fast growing, reaching screen height in 2-3 years depending on which size you purchase.
